[Editor: I received this from a friend. I am re-posting it here as it makes a nice addendum to the sermons preached on 8 January 2012 which reviews can be found here (2nd service) and also here (1st service). ]

The Bible is not a scientific manual, but it is scientifically accurate, even from its earliest pages, which were written thousands of years ago. The following are some examples:

(1) The Bible says plants and animals reproduce after their kind (Gen. 1:11-12).

This is in perfect harmony with everything that can be observed and tested by modern science. There is great variety within kinds, all sorts of different roses and trees and frogs and dogs, but there is no reproduction between kinds, between roses and trees or frogs and dogs.

¹¹ Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. ¹² And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

(2) The Bible says the earth is hung upon nothing (Job 26:7).

Modern science knows that the earth moves freely in space, but this fact is contrary to the teaching of most ancient religions. The Greeks, for example, taught that the world is upheld by Atlas. Others taught that the earth was supported by huge pillars on the back of a giant tortoise and other such fanciful notions.
⁷ He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.

(3) The Bible says the earth is a circle (Isaiah 40:22).

In past centuries many have believed that the earth is flat, but the Scriptures have always been scientifically accurate in this matter.

²² It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.

(4) The Bible says there are paths in the sea (Is. 43:16).

Since the 19th century the ocean currents or paths have been charted and ships travel these paths just as trucks travel across roads. Writing in the mid-1800s, Matthew Fontaine Maury, Superintendent of the U.S. Navy’s Depot of Charts and Instruments in Washington, D.C., observed, “There is a river in the ocean: in the severest droughts it never fails, and in the mightiest floods it never overflows; its banks and its bottom are of cold water, while its current is of warm; the Gulf of Mexico is its fountain, and its mouth is in the Arctic Seas. It is the Gulf Stream.” (Maury, The Physical Geography of the Sea, 6th ed., 1856, p. 25).

¹⁶ Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea and a path through the mighty waters,

(5) The Bible says there are trenches in the sea (Gen. 7:11; Job 38:16).

 “For many centuries, man considered the seashore as little more than a shallow, sandy extension that went from one continent to another. Then, in 1873 a group of British scientists carrying out research in the Pacific Ocean discovered a ‘recess’ (trench) 35,800 feet deep. A trench is a long, narrow depression in the ocean floor that looks like an enormous gash with extremely steep sides. The topography and depth of these trenches are used to distinguish them from other valleys and depressions in the oceans. Three major oceans have trenches in them, but the Pacific is most renowned for such. Extensive studies have been carried out on the Marianas Trench off the coast of Guam. In fact, several years ago a research team, using the bathyscaph Trieste, travelled almost seven miles down into one trench. The Bible, however, once again contained such knowledge long before mankind discovered it. Biblical scholars acknowledge that the use of the Hebrew word tehom (‘abyssal depth’ see Genesis 7:11) may well be a reference to such trenches. Job was asked by God, ‘hast thou walked in the search of the depth?’ (Job 38:16). … We now know — thanks to years of intense, successful scientific investigations — that such ‘recesses’ actually do occur in the oceans of our planet. Admittedly, our knowledge of these matters resulted from impressive technological achievements covering many generations. But where did the writer of the book of Job obtain his information? And how did the psalmist know to use a word that depicted oceanic depths? (‘Scientific Foreknowledge and Biblical Accuracy,’ Bert Thompson, PhD, Reason and Revelation, October 1993).

Genesis 7:11 “In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.”

Job 38:16 “Have you entered the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in search of the depths?”

(6) The Bible says the air has weight (Job 28:25).

It was not until the 17th century that Galileo discovered this, when he constructed an apparatus consisting of a glass bulb with an airtight valve and found that it weighed more after air was forced into it. Prior to this it was thought that air was weightless. In fact, Aristotle had done experiments that he erroneously thought confirmed that air had no weight.

Job 28:25- To establish a weight for the wind, and apportion the waters by measure.

(7) The Bible says there are springs in the sea (Job 38:16).

Modern science has discovered that there are thousands of underwater springs that add millions of metric tons of water into the oceans each year.

Job 38:16 “Have you entered the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in search of the depths?”

(8) The Bible says the sea has great depth (Job 38:16).

It is important to understand that the Bible, like all writings intended for general reading, uses the language of appearance:

The Bible refers to the sun setting, even though we know that the sun itself does not set but the earth rotates, giving the appearance of the sun setting (Gen. 28:11; Judges 9:33).

The Bible refers to the sun and moon as “the two great lights” (Gen. 1:16).

We know that there are many stars that are greater than our sun and moon, but from the perspective of the earth, the sun and moon are the greatest.
Genesis 1:16 – Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.

the mind takes 20mins to know that our stomach is full. imagine we take 11 mins to eat, the mind still think that there’s not enuf food.

we tend to swallow food in big bulk and the stomach cannot break down food fast and efficiently.

Pastor Mark mentioned that our body is very smart. It knows what are good foods to eat but we must allow it time to digest. Thus if we are slowly chewing a morsel of food, our body would send signals to the brain that – the food is not so nutricous – don’t eat so much. However, if we eat too fast without chewing, we are not allowing this bodily function to work well. Food engineers these days are also smart — they create foods which are otherwise not so nutricious — BUT ensure that the first few bites are bursting with flavor — thus fooling the body into thinking that the particular food is nutricious.  This strategy adopted by food engineers works well because we often swallow our food without chewing these days !

Pastor Mark also mentioned that chewing slowly helps stimulate certain nerves in the brain this helps prevent dementia.

God wants us to rest.

worry is another form of meditating and it’s the wrong kind of meditating

Everybody can meditate as everybody can worry [worry is meditating in reverse !]

Meditating is slowly chewing repeatedly on portions of God’s Word again and again to draw up nourishment .

Even in the natural, we are encouraged to eat slowly and chew our food to ensure that we obtain the maximum nutrition from the morsels of food we are partaking of. This also aids digestion as food which is already very well chewed up is more easily digested by stomach and digestive tract.

Studies show that Americans and French have similar meat-heavy diets. Yet, French folks have better health especially caridiac health ! Why ? Perhaps because they take their food slowly — meals can even be 3 hours long ! They chew their food and not wolf down fast food. When you chew your food, you tend to eat smaller portions overall because you feel full faster. Your brain takes time to ‘inform’ your stomach that it has enough nutrition. So if you swallow your food quickly without chewing them up, you tend to eat more !

when we are under stress, our body will react and we will tend to eat too much.

You need to pray to ask God to intervene to exercise his covenant rights

God had given authority to man and man had given to devil.

Unless you pray God will not move. You have to pray to ask him to come in on his covenant with us through Jesus

Some times good happen but you did not pray . Why ? Somebody prayed . Maybe prayed in tongues

Let’s say you are fearful . So just simply meditate to yourself , the Lord has not given me a spirit of fear But a sound mind

Just chew on the word and when the time comes there will be milk or food for the people . Simply focus on the word !

Maybe there are dead spots in your mind , God can revive them as you spend time in God ‘s word

You need to commit the verse to memory before you can bring it up through out the day to meditate

Whatever you do will prosper if you mutter or muse on Word. Psalm 1.

Condensation . Rain. also mentioned in Job.

Morning stars sing . Job records this also. Scientists now tell us that stars emit high Frequency radio waves

As far as east is from west God has removed transgressions sin from us. David said under inspiration . Only true of a spherical earth in globe form

God hangs the earth on nothing. Science also bears this out now

Bible is scientifically accurate but it is not about science . It is about Jesus

So choose to meditate on Jesus and covenant truths in NT and promises in OT

Do not meditate on OT laws eg thou shall nots !

Do this one thing and you will prosper !

Every time God mentions meditate , prosperity or profit follows. Eg
Psalm 1. Whatever you do prospers – even mistakes !

Let no men despise his youth . Gk word for youth covers those up to 40

Same principles Paul shared with Tim for being a effective pastor also applies to us now

Reject profane and old wives fables . Eg don’t point to moon .

Let God ‘s Word be our culture.

Let motivate people with love and grace and not with fear from old wife fables

What is Godliness according to Word ?

Bodily exercise profits a little only in area for feeling fit

But godliness profitable for all things

Don’t label people . Some you think proud may be boasting in the Lord and truly humble . Eg David . Whilst those who appear humble may be filled with pride

1 Tim 3:16 – GODliness has to do with the person of Jesus

- Used of Greeks in meditative pondering by rhetoricians before speech

LXX Septuagint translates Joshua 1:8 meditate (hagah) as meletao (Gk)

George Mueller himself attributed his long life to three causes. He stated these three causes often.

• “First, he exercised himself to have always a conscience void of offence both toward God and toward men. (Acts 24:16)

• “Secondly, to the love he felt for the Scriptures, and the constant recuperative power they had upon his whole being. (Proverbs 3:2,8; 4:22)

• “Thirdly, to that happiness he felt in God and in His work, which relieved him of all anxiety and needless wear and tear in his labors.” (Psalm 55:22):

Back to Timothy. God says when you meditate – profiting appears to ALL even unbelievers

Take heed unto doctrine. This means continue preaching Grace and rightly divide Word

” and SAVE (sozoe) ..”

This here implies wider aspect of save as Tim already saved unto eternal life in Jesus

So when you preach the word you are making yourself healthy and those that hear you healthy . Save both yourself and those who hear you

Get excited about sharing the Word . This applies to everybody. The word pulpit does not appear. You can share across lunch

Pastor himself when he feels ill, he preaches himself back to health

This is preacher’s secret to health!

The ministry by which others are blessed , God has ordained the same ministry is through which you the preacher are saved to health

Those who are hearing are constantly blessed in their hearing

Cedar and palm trees are both evergreen trees

Cedar can grow to 300 years

We flourish like cedar

Song of Songs say Jesus appearance is like Cedar tree . Regal

Because of oil , no fungus grows on cedar tree

Cedar Oil also repels insects

That is why cedar wood is popular furniture and you can use cedar in home to repel insects

We are like cedar trees and repel evil spirits like Satan the belzebub (lord of flies)

Fragrant yet repel disease (fungus ) and evil sprits (insects)

Planted in house of God (YHWH ) , flourish in courts viz outside in world and God (Elohim ) will cause this

God will bring forth fruit in OLD AGE

Flourishing is Hebrew – ra ‘ anan – green

Invest your time this year in things which cause you to prosper ! Mediate on God’s Word !

It is important for Believers to not merely graze like most Sunday Christian but recline and relax and meditate on God’s word

One man was challenged to memorize the entire book of proverbs and his grades went up until he became grade A student

Memorizing Word helps restore the mental potential and brain capacity

David says : revive or quicken me according to your word

Do that one thing : meditate on Word

We are folks planted by the waters and whatever we do prospers

Hebrew : meditate – hey gimmel hey ( Hebrew letters for hagah )

Muttering – softly , just undertones

Eg like God never leave us or forsakes us

Late Kenneth E Hagin said he was preaching out of town and received call from wife that his daughter was ill. Hagin begin to meditate on healing scriptures and then he called his wife back. He then said don’t worry , all will be well. Hagin took the time to meditate and whatever he did prospers . Take time to meditate before praying for healing

Pastor Prince went to Muir Woods for vacation with family and associate pastors. This took place after preaching at Lakewood church in Texas.

Pastor saw a tree trunk there which fell across river like a bridge but not touching water. shoots coming forth from this dead trunk . Why ? Responding to smell of water below

Job 14:7 – 9

V 7 ” .. That it’s tender shoots will not cease ‘

V 9 ” .. Yet at the scent of water it will bud “

This is inspirational for those of us with certain dead situations

Water of word . Even smell of it causes dead places to come alive again

word can divide bones and marrow

Only laser can do this

Word sharper than any 2 edged sword

Paul must be talking about laser

Sword only cuts one way

Laser cuts every which way Like bible describes the word

In emmaus road experience , Jesus taught about himself from the books of Moses . That is the best way to study Bible – all about Jesus

There are still scientific facts yet to be discovered from Bible

Oldest book Job says in Job 25:5 that moon does not shine

Man only discovered this only after modern telescope invented

Every time man try to improve on God work he tends to pervert it eg water is best but man invent soda or aerated water

A good marriage can propel a man to God’s destiny for him

Don’t play blame game in marriage . Believe that God bless you in marriage

Some folks. They don’t care too much about yourself . Then world looks down on them . So this exacerbates the situation and they become further crestfallen . Then world looks down on then even more. Then they don’t care further about themselves and their appearance. Vicious cycle . So break cycle ! Dress up and put on make up . God looks on heart but man looks on the outside

Don’t live by old wives fables and go by Word

1 Tim 3:16

This is the mystery of Godliness .

Mysterion (Gk) means once it was hidden now it is revealed

This exercise towards Godliness is referring to mediation

Bodily exercise is Gk word which gives rise to gymnasium

Psalm 1 :2 and 1: 4

The ungodly are not so . V4 . The contrast. Wicked one do not meditate !

If you do this one thing : meditate on Word , prosper in all things

1 Tim 4: 7:8

1 tim 4 : 15 : meditate on these things and profit

Paul is telling Tim how to be a success in being a pastor etc . This is applicable to us too

God knows how to prosper you in the area which you need

Your progress will be made evident ! World can see that

Eg to boss. Potiphar saw Jo prosperity in his work

Salt and light congregate to gain strength but don’t stay together all the time

majority of Christians God calls you to be salt and light to world out there

But don’t lose your saltiness !

Be an uncommon Believer . World is trying to pull us down

Mediate – meletao (Gk)

Josh 1:8

See prosperous and good success in this verse as a result of meditation

In LXX Septuagint , meditate is meletao (Gk) for hagah (Heb) in Josh 1:8

Bible tells us that for the word of Christ someone was close to death

In other words , don’t do everything Just do what God tells you to do and don’t run yourself ragged

1 Tim 4:16 . Paul is telling tim to take care of himself and not run himself ragged

V 16 save — sozo (see the Gk)

This is all encompassing word. ESP here . Tim already saved to go heaven so it must be saved unto health

Everything you meditate and preach and share to people , you and people become healthy – v 16

Every time you listen to God’s word the more sozo power you receive

Pastor shares how pastor Åge M. Åleskjær of Norway’s Oslo Kristne Senter (Christian Centre) preached himself back to health after he preached to people . Before he stood at the pulpit he had felt sick.

Pastor feels most lively when he is frequently preaching especially in Israel where everything and surroundings are reflecting God’s Word and this inspires him to share with pastors and others around him.

Jonathan Edwards said ” .. At those time I read scriptures I am most lively … “

“How it comes about I know not, but I have remarked it hitherto, that at those times when I have read the Scriptures most, I have evermore been most lively and in the best frame.”

George Müller shared in booklet soul nourishment first where God told him to take a portion from God’s word every morning so his soul is happy and nourished first

That is priority . All else you won’t be be able to share etc if your own soul not shared

Once he was on way to Quebec on a ship . There was fog and this threatened to cause him to miss meeting . George prayed with captain and fog lifted .

[Editor: I found a summary of this event on the internet which reads "Once, whilst crossing the Atlantic on the SS Sardinian in August 1877, his ship ran into thick fog. He explained to the captain that he needed to be in Quebec by the following afternoon, but Captain Joseph E Dutton (later known as "Holy Joe") said that he was slowing the ship down for safety and Müller's appointment would have to be missed. Müller asked to use the chartroom to pray for the lifting of the fog. The captain followed him down, claiming it would be a waste of time. After Müller prayed, the captain started to pray, but Müller stopped him; partly because of the captain's unbelief, but mainly because he believed the prayer had already been answered. Passed away at 93 with no sickness .

Key to long life said George : no offense towards man or God ; and constant recuperative power of God ‘s word ; etc

Those who are planted in house of God will flourish in courts outside

No sickness and poverty in heaven

Lord ‘s prayer is that bring heaven ‘s quality down to earth . Heaven on earth for us in the midst of hell on earth for others

Bible is complete and therefore does not need external source for interpretation

So you don’t need to read Mayan 2012 prophesy to interpret bible

Word of God is all we need for 2012 and how to prepare ourselves

God won’t show you everything . God will show you enough . Enough so you can step out in faith

Yes if he is under Law or if preacher and preaching law not grace

Good may come to the cursed man but he cannot see it

We are not this cursed man who inhabits the parched land and in a salt land

Trust in man could also mean self-confidence or trusting in other men for success

We are to be Christ – confident

Sometimes God may send you people to help but trust must always be on God

Boss is just a channel . God can change your boss. Don’t look to man for blessing

Don’t wait for Europe or USA to recover or for somebody to do something

Look to the Lord our true stronghold

Cursed man is a shrub is desert who cannot see good when it comes

We are blessed man in jer 17;7

V 8 we shall not see when heat comes

Heat will come but we will not see it

Why ? Because We are so full of Jesus

Heat in hebrew literally means heat

Stop looking to man’s idea and prognostication

We are not wild trees. We are planted by someone and somebody is watching after us. Jesus planted us by the waters. Our leaves are evergreen and do not wither

Those who survived 2011 and can even complain now .Stop complaining . You made it .

let every one who has breath praise the Lord ! Don’t be like the cursed man

Thank the lord that you are alive

One man died last week and the whole nation cried ! What for being a conqueror of nation but life is cut short !

V 8 – careful : means anxious

Why not careful ? Being we will be evergreen and fruitful

We can be dumb and still be blessed

There are people who are smart and come under the curse

We don’t have to be smart to be blessed . Just be like sheep following the shepherd

What is the point for climbing the ladder of success if you find that end of ladder it is the wrong house !

We will not be anxious in the year of drought – 2012

We will see a lot of turmoil in 2012 . Watch out for Israel and middle east and the part Israel will play this year

People of God will be evergreen in this year of drought and yield fruit

Works is the outcome of effort
Fruit is the outflow of life

Works of flesh eg variance, party spirit etc

Result of flesh

Fruit of spirit : love joy etc

Fruit – we just receive . Don’t have to worry about producing

When ? This year .

We cannot see the sap of tree but we can see the fruit

Jesus wants us to bear fruit

We will have fruit for every single month in 2012

Bible says this happens in year of drought

Why? Testimony to Lord that we prosper when world in drought . We say Jesus is the source

We do not cease to yield fruit in the year of drought

Leaves – what are they ?

Leaves for the healing of the nations !

Nations – goyim – non Jews

Tree in heaven but we have access to it now

As nations mentioned here so we know we have access to it

when we meditate we have leaves evergreen and unceasing fruitfulness

Whatever we do prospers

In world they may be good at management but health or marriage failing but with God’s word – whatever prospers

How ? By trusting on the lord – via meditation on God’s word

Law of lord refers the whole counsel of God’s word

Lord of law is perfect and converting the soul – David says

So cannot be 10 commandments as they don’t convert souls

Word is infallible unlike world ‘s material

Do not prioritize man words above God’s

Sometimes God uses man as channel but always trust God

Eg Elijah and how he was fed by bird’s and then widow woman

Why ? God wanted to bring Elijah go woman so she could be blessed when she offered bread to Elijah

Whatever you do prosper . But do something . Get off your end and do something

Sometimes the prosperity does not manifest immediately . See Joseph example

We are a blessing going everywhere we go and waiting to bless someone

Pastors kids patronized a stall where previously no one bothered and by the time they left, crowds were thronging it

Eg : mutter to oneself that lord is my shepherd

There was a guy who asked guide to take him to places where ps 23 could have taken place . Lord impressed on man to meditate on ps 23 and he was filled with peace and he healed of cancer. So he wanted to make a video of ps 23 in Israel for Cancer patients to meditate on

Proverbs says that God’s word is health to all our flesh

No side effects for other organs . Cf man medicine

Business man was in dire straights and God told him to muse upon ps 23. His mind was not occupied with worry and he did not do problem solving . Whilst meditating , he saw clearly what he had to do and he was delivered of his financial problems

Bible meditation is not like worlds where you empty yourself. Here you repeat to yourself word of God

In down time meditate . In queue time . Meditate

Eg mutter I will not be careful in year of drought because God takes care of me .

Even mistakes can prosper – when you meditate on God ‘s word

Pastor saw a cow in cave in Mt arbel and it was ruminating . It has 4 digestive compartments in their stomach. Brings up the food to ruminate from one compartment to another until finely digested

Cows need to be relaxed when they ruminate

Principle : be relaxed when meditating

Leviticus says do not eat animals which do not split hooves and do not chew curd. Do not eat from ministries which do not rightly divide the word between law and grace

God cannot lie. Whatever you meditate on word . God performs the Word

God word is so sweet so you delight in it like a sweet in mouth so not legalism when you meditate

Parallel is delight and joy in eating . So not legalism

ps 113 : God makes the barren woman keep house and be joyful mother of children

Must mutter so it engages your mind or else you will quickly forget in day’s busyness

Joshua was such a busy man as leader of Israel and God told him to prioritize meditating day and night on Word

God ‘s way is evening and morning – day starts with evening

Our s is more negative : morning then dark . Very pessimistic

But God change the order for Joshua meditation verse . For future generation who work on day and night principle and to meditate

As long as Joshua lived , all Israel served God

Find out God ‘s promises and hide them in your mind and bring them out in meditation

Bible says all scripture is God breathed and thoroughly furnished for all good works.

Don’t worry about what the Mayan are saying or Nostradamas

The devil can prophesy his own plans so it is always bad

If God tells you something bad, he will always forewarn you and prepare you

If something tells you you must pay money etc to avoid something , then run

For world, it is going to be famine and they are seeking answers from man and not from the place that has the answers – God and his word

This man is trusting in his flesh so curse comes

Can believer come under curse ?

New testament says yes for those preachers who don’t preach Grace

Why did Rachel did young ? When she fled from Father she stole Father’s idols – her faith was mixed !

Jacob pronounced a curse saying let the one who stole idol be cursed . But he did not know it was Rachel who stole from Laban who chased down and demanded idols back

You can be dumb and still be blessed

God causing them to be blessed

We made it to 2012. We are alive ! Not dead

We are blessed . Don’t complain that money no enough etc

Trusting in men means who you trust as blessings in your life . Eg if you trust in boss or some other man or you are self-conifdent

This year there is heat ! The heat is already on in fact

We are in fight of faith even as blessed men but we hardly see heat

Why ? We are too busy seeing Jesus

But cursed men cannot see good at all even when good is there

heat and green don’t usually go together but it does here ! V 8 leaf green . Shall not be careful in this year of drought

When people come around this year they will be refreshed

Pastor’s kids saw a huggable toy pillow at a stall and they took liking to it. Stall was empty . Subsequently favor drawn to stall where previously empty

This year is year of drought for world but we are blessed in 2012 for all aspects of our life including biz

2011 is number of mess and disorganized . Japan tsunami proved disorganized Year

12 is number of divine order and government

Jessica is 12 . Pastor prince therefore can empathize how Jairius felt when Jarius daughter was 12 and almost taken and cut off at prime of life

We cannot wait for Japan to recover or PRC to humble itself or USA to elect right president

That is not where our trust is ! Not in trusting flesh

Much of world’s counsel may sound good but still ungodly counsel

They may be good in comedy but marriage last 18 months . Or good in management but failure in marriage

Christian can be good in very area !

God can bless you and the migrant worker to Singapore . He can bless both and at nobody’s expense . That makes you a giver if you have that attitude

Jer shows that meditating on Word is equals to trusting in Lord

Delight in Lord so this meditating on word is not legalism

We delight in eating so not legalism

So he wanted to produce video for cancer patients based on ps 23. When you meditate on Word , God has to abide by the verse’s promises

Also another man who had mental block in biz and had breakthrough after meditating on ps 23

Keep on meditating and coming into God’s house

We won’t see when heat comes this year as we are lost in God’s goodness this year !

Choose to be the blessed man by meditating and trusting on His Word
